Poetry: Books

Catalog Search Tips - Look with the Discovery tool on the Library Homepage (or use the box directly above) to find books by or about your poet.  Write down the book title & call number to locate these books on the shelves.  Ask a library staff member if you need assistance.

Using the search box on the library homepage, click on the advanced search option to the right underneath the box.

• To find books BY a particular poet, select AUTHOR search and enter your poet's name.
• To find books ABOUT a particular poet, select SUBJECT search and enter your poet's name.
• To find books containing literary criticism of an poet's work, add the keywords CRITICISM AND INTERPRETATION to your search.
• To find biographical writing on your poet, add the keyword BIOGRAPHY to your search.

Search terms will vary depending on your poet or poem.

Example:

"African American" women poets

19th century British poets

"Native americans" AND poetry

Poetry collections are in the P section in the library. 

PN 6100 - PN 6110 General Poetry Anthologies 

PR 1170 - PR 1230 Collections of English poetry

PS 581 - PS 620 Collections of American poetry

These books can be found on the 2nd floor. At top of stairs, turn left for the PN and PR sections, turn right for the PS section.

For collections by specific poets, search by author using the Advanced Search option of the Discovery tool on the library homepage.
