Faculty Guide to Publication: Who's Citing Me?

This guide will help VWU faculty locate publications that cite their own published works and is intended to be useful in tenure & promotion review. It also provides guidance for what to consider when deciding where to publish.

Getting Started with Cited Reference Searching

To begin the process of finding out who has cited your work, you must have a complete and accurate list of all your publications.

No one database or source will have all the information you need to see who has cited your work.  You must use multiple sources.  See the lists at left to link to databases.

For each publication you have, you will need to search the three main citation tracking resources to ensure a complete search.

You likely will be searching using keywords from the publication's title and your last name.

Make use of a database's truncation symbol to locate citation variants.

Additional Databases

Some databases offer a "cited by" button once you locate an article, while others require you to initially search within a "References" or "Cited References" field.
