Faculty Support: Permalinks

Library resources for VWU faculty to support teaching and research.

Permalinks

permalink is a permanent link or stable URL--a URL that points to an article or other online resource, allowing the reader to go right to it without re-creating a search in a database.

Permalinks are the easiest way for faculty to refer to articles from within Blackboard.

Permalinks in EBSCO

As with all permalinks, you must first get to the specific item you want the permalink for.

  1. Perform your search in any EBSCO database and click the link for the specific article or other item.
  2. On the "Tools" sidebar on the right, click on Permalink.
  3. The link is provided at the top of the page, complete with the proxy prefix.
  4. Copy this entire link for use in the future.

This link will take you back to the entry for this specific item. If PDF or HTML full text was available, it will be available when you return via the permalink.

Permalinks in JSTOR

As with all permalinks, you must first get to the specific item you want the permalink for.

  1. Perform your search in JSTOR and click the link for the specific article.
  2. At the top next to the picture of the journal, you will find a "Stable URL."
  3. Copy this entire link for use in the future.
  4. If you will be using this link from off campus, you will need to add the proxy info to the beginning of the URL
    • https://vwu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=url= followed by the Stable URL
  5. You may also use the links labelled "View PDF" or "View Citation" on the right.
