Microform Help: SCANNER MODE - Options

Instructions for using microfilm/fiche reader/printer.

ViewScan – FASTER - use for most documents

VIEW SCAN

  1. Captures what is displayed on the monitor in the View Mode.
  2. Good screen resolution (what you see is what you get)
  3. Useful for originals that are single letter size page or smaller.
  4. Faster – only one second to capture the image and send to the PC
  5. Directions below.

Starting the ScanWrite program

  1. Using the computer keyboard and mouse, double click the SCANWRITE icon on the monitor to open the program.
  2. Following instructions on screen, Click anywhere on the screen to begin.
  3. ScanWrite window pop-up: Do you want to view help video? Click NO. (You may view this video at any time.)
  4. ScanWrite window pop-up: Enter the filename prefix for scanned images: e.g. Entering scan here will generate file names like scan 00, scan 01, scan 02 … Enter the appropriate name for your document,(e.g RelTodJune1968 might be the filename prefix for a June 1968 article from the magazine Religion Today.)
  5. ScanWrite window pop-up: Select Source. (Directions for each option are below.)

Fast scan with ST ViewScan:

VIEW SCAN

  1. Click the Scan Images icon on the actions toolbar.
  2. Select Live Preview. Image appears immediately.
  3. Adjust the image using the on screen controls to zoom in or out, auto focus, adjust brightness and other settings. There is a slight pause when using these controls – be patient.
  4. Click Capture and the image will be placed into memory.
  5. Click Send to PC and image will be placed into ScanWrite. (only takes a few seconds – you will see a thumbnail image in the work area on the main ScanWrite screen in the upper left behind the view screen)
  6. Click Close to close the View window and work in the ScanWrite window.
  7. Click on the image and then click on the action you would like to take, and follow the directions on screen to edit, save or print. (Click on Editing & Saving tab for directions.)

NOTE: All thumbnail images will remain until the ScanWrite program is closed. Therefore, multiple images can be created and then edited, saved and/or printed.

DirectScan – SLOWER - high quality image

DIRECT SCAN

  1. Captures up to a full newspaper page on 16mm or 35mm roll film
  2. Very high resolution – higher quality image
  3. Slower – high resolution images can take up to 30 seconds to scan.
  4. Directions below.

Starting the ScanWrite program

  1. Using the computer keyboard and mouse, double click the SCANWRITE icon on the monitor to open the program.
  2. Following instructions on screen, Click anywhere on the screen to begin.
  3. ScanWrite window pop-up: Do you want to view help video? Click NO. (You may view this video at any time.)
  4. Slower scan with STDirectFilmScan:

DIRECT SCAN

  1. Click the Scan Images icon on the actions toolbar.
  2. Select Source: ST Direct Film – the SC200 Direct Film Scanner window will appear.
  3. Next to Step 1 box click Preview Scan. Wait; you may see a warming up message on the screen. This may take 1-2 minutes when first starting. You will hear the SC200 emitting a slight hum and a small black scanner head slides slowly forward and then back into the machine. You will then see the image on the monitor.
  4. Step 2: Select and resize the scan area to just the image that you want by clicking in the small red square at each corner and dragging the mouse. Move the entire scan area by clicking anywhere inside the red selection and dragging the mouse to the correct position.
  5. Optional Enhancements: You can continue to try to enhance or improve the image using the left-side on-screen tools. (Generally, try to get the best image using the Control Panel options prior to switching to scanning.)
  6. Step 3: Click Scan Selection and wait while selected image is scanned. (Scanner head will again move forward and back much more slowly and new image will appear on monitor. Blue progress line appears on screen as image is scanned.)
  7. The new image will be placed into ScanWrite. (only takes a few seconds – you will see a thumbnail image in the work area on the main ScanWrite screen in the upper left behind the view screen.)
  8. Click Close Scanner Window in lower right corner and work in the ScanWrite window.
  9. Click on the image and then click on the action you would like to take, and follow the directions on screen to edit, save or print.  (Click on Editing & Saving tab for directions.)

NOTE: All thumbnail images will remain until the ScanWrite program is closed. Therefore, multiple images can be created and then edited, saved and/or printed.
